Tips For Hydroseeding Your Lawn Before You Sell Your House

Posted on

The day that you list your house for sale is too late for you to address a bare, burned or dying lawn. If you want your lawn to look lush and full when you start showing your house, you'll want to address it early in the spring before you list the house for sale. Hydroseeding is a great way to cover the whole space quickly to restore your grass. Here are some tips to prepare your yard for hydroseeding before you sell.

Wiping Out the Weeds

In order for hydroseeding to be successful, you'll need to get rid of any weeds at the roots. Otherwise, the existing weeds are likely to suffocate the grass seed and keep it from rooting properly. Break up the soil and treat it with an herbicide to eliminate any residual weeds. Most herbicides are effective for seven to ten days. Check the package for the product you chose to see how long it's active in the soil. Don't proceed until you know that the herbicide is no longer active.

Prepare the Soil

If you're going to apply the hydroseed to the existing soil, you'll want to work the soil first. Start by sifting out large rocks, twigs and debris. Work the soil to a depth of several inches to create an ideal environment for the grass seed to root.

As an alternative, you can create a nearly perfect environment for the hydroseed by spreading topsoil across your yard. Create a solid foundation of topsoil in an even, thick layer. You'll need several inches of topsoil for a good growing environment.

Once you've prepared the soil, you'll want to use a roller to lightly compact it. Rake it thoroughly, so that the whole surface is smooth and even. Once it's all leveled out, roll it again. This creates a solid foundation for the seed so that it will settle, root and thrive.

Add Irrigation for Nurturing

If you want your hydroseed to grow well, it's important to keep it watered. Especially in the first several weeks of growth, the seed will need regular, consistent watering. Install an irrigation system in the soil before you apply the seed for the easiest watering approach.

Hydroseeding, with companies such as Bark Blowers & Hydroseeding Inc, provides even, blanketed coverage of seed across the lawn. It is a great way to create a lawn that will make your house look welcoming. Follow the tips here to increase your chances of success with the hydroseeding application and you'll have a better chance of selling your house as quickly as possible.
